Welcome to Student Support Services

happy students at school

our mission

The Student Support Services Department provides a strong network of services and support to the students, staff, parents and community of Lawndale Elementary School District. This department oversees a wide range of educational and support programs that provide instruction to our students. Our goal is to advocate for students and families by linking them to an array of services that will open the doors to a better tomorrow.

If a student needs to talk to a support staff member:

Drop in Support: Students can drop in to talk to our school social worker or social work intern, every Wednesday at 12pm. Zoom links are emailed to students every Wednesday.

Students can request to check in with a student support staff member by completing the Student Check In Request Form below.

Attendance Case Management

LESD interns provide attendance monitoring for students to support daily attendance. Individualized attendance plans are created in collaboration with students and their families.

Virtual Support Groups

  • Self-Empowerment Group (Becoming You): This group supports students with boosting self-confidence and identifying strengths to express a positive attitude, celebrate diversity, promote healthy relationships and to create a promising outlook on the future.

  • Friendship Group (Rogers' Social Circle): This group aims to teach and practice social skills with students. It also encourages students to foster peer connections, identify and cope with feelings, and to enhance social abilities.

  • Relaxation Group (Finding Calm Amongst the Chaos): Amid distance learning, this group's purpose is to provide a space where students can express their emotions and practice healthy coping strategies, mindfulness and artistic expression. This group is especially important for student students who are experiencing worry, sadness and grief.

  • On Track to Greatness (Sister Circle): This group aims to support our 6th grade, African-American female students and is meant to foster friendship, empowerment and academic achievement.

Virtual Social Opportunities

  • Lunch Bunch: Students can join their classmates for lunchtime activities every Monday at 12pm. Zoom links are emailed to students every Monday.

  • GSAlliance: Students are invited to join this virtual safe space for students who identify as LGBTQI and their allies every Tuesday at 12. Zoom links are emailed to students every Tuesday.

  • PS Arts SAC Lunch Program: Students can enroll to participate in art activities with PS Arts and a social work intern. Art materials are offered to participants.
